About the World Summit Awards

What is WSA?

The World Summit Awards recognise digital solutions that improve society and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. WSA was launched in 2003 within the UN World Summit on the Information Society and is run by the International Center for New Media (ICNM), an Austrian not-for-profit.

Is WSA part of the United Nations?

No. WSA began within the UN framework and often works with UN entities, but it is an independent programme with no official UN affiliation or UN funding.

Is there prize money?

No. WSA is a non-monetary award. Winners gain international recognition, a place in a global network of founders, mentors, investors and government leaders, and an invitation to the WSA Global Congress.

Entering from Singapore

Who can enter?

Companies, organisations and individuals, including startups, SMEs, government agencies, NGOs, social enterprises and schools.

Does my solution need to be used in Singapore?

Your organisation needs to be based in Singapore, but your solution’s impact can be in Singapore, the region or worldwide.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Submission is free.

Can I apply directly to WSA Global?

No. WSA works on a one-country, one-vote model: each country nominates one solution per category. You apply to the Singapore national round, and we nominate up to eight Singapore solutions for the global round.

How does WSA Singapore choose its nominees?

Our National Expert reviews every Singapore application against the WSA criteria (impact on society, content quality, innovation and user value) and nominates the strongest solution in each category.

Eligibility

What kind of solution qualifies?

A digital solution that is live, in use, and has real users or customers. This includes apps, websites, platforms, games, wearables, kiosks, SMS services and more.

Can I enter a prototype or idea?

No. Drafts, prototypes, demos and concepts aren’t eligible. The solution must be fully working, with evidence of real-world use.

My solution has been around for years. Can it still enter?

Yes, if it can show significant new impact developments within the last three years.

Which category should I choose?

Choose the one where your solution has the most impact. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help. The jury may also move an entry to a better-fitting category.

What language should my application be in?

English. All official WSA communication and the application details must be in English.

Young Innovators

Who can enter WSA Young Innovators?

Startups, student groups and project teams where at least one founder, and the majority of the team, are under 26 (born on or after 1 January 2000). The solution must already be on the market and creating social impact. The Young Innovators call is paused in 2026 and returns in 2027.

Timeline and results

When can I apply?

Applications for national rounds usually open in the second quarter of the year. Register your interest and we’ll tell you when the call opens.

What happens after I’m nominated?

An international jury reviews all nominations, first online to create a shortlist and then at a Grand Jury, and selects 40 global winners, five per category. Winners are announced early the following year.

What do winners and nominees receive?

Winners are invited to the WSA Global Congress to pitch, take part in workshops and receive their award, with board and lodging provided during on-site Congress events. Nominees receive the WSA nominee seal, press templates and feedback from the jury.

Are flights to the Global Congress covered?

No. Winners cover their own travel to the Congress. Board and lodging during on-site Congress events are provided.

What rights does WSA have over my submission?

WSA may use your submitted images and videos for non-commercial promotion, and may share project information with potential investors and partners. You must own or have licensed everything you submit.
